Room thermostats, TRVs, weather compensation and smart apps, where the real savings come from in a UK home.
Smart thermostats get the headlines, but the biggest efficiency gains in most UK homes come from unglamorous basics: correct flow temperature, working TRVs, and a boiler that modulates properly.
Turn your flow temperature down
Most condensing combis leave the factory set at 70–80°C, which stops them condensing at all. Dropping the heating flow temperature to around 55–60°C can cut gas use by up to 8% with no loss of comfort in a reasonably insulated home. It costs nothing and takes two minutes.
Where smart controls do pay
- Load and weather compensation, the boiler matches output to outside temperature
- Accurate scheduling around real occupancy patterns
- Zoning larger houses so you heat only what you use
- Holiday and frost protection you can control remotely
What we fit
We install and commission the main OpenTherm and eBUS-compatible controls, so your boiler modulates rather than cycling on and off. If you are having a new boiler fitted, ask us about compensation controls at quote stage, retrofitting later costs more.
